Bluebird Pantry - Welfare Initiative

With the help of student feedback, Bluebird & Night Owl now offers a free Food Pantry on campus. Please come by and visit us in Building 2, Level 3 (near the food court 02.03.120)

Our main aim is to assist students facing hardship by

· Providing a last-minute meal to students

· Helping support students’ wellbeing through reducing financial stress

· Continuing to support international students

The Pantry has a grocery shop-style layout, with all stock available on shelves. The Bluebird Pantry is run by UTSSA staff and students together with the assistance of our dedicated volunteers. If you would like to volunteer please click here

We would like to extend our deep appreciation to Market City Shopping Centre, Thai Kee IGA, Euca, Love Luna and Cornerstone Café for supporting the Bluebird Pantry.

Why we offer a Pantry

Bluebird Brekkie and Night Owl Noodles has been your fav service on campus for ten years but, with the COVID pandemic, food insecurity has dramatically increased for students creating a significant barrier to student success. So, we looked at how we could help and through some hard work we’ve been able to launch an extension of our food welfare services in the form of a Pantry.

The Pantry provides fair distribution of perishable and non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, contraception, and general household supplies.

Please note: As the Pantry is a new project, it will take a bit of time to build up and get some regular items. We appreciate your patience and support while we get this up and running and are excited to see how generous the community can be

#Accessing the Pantry Welfare Service

Food insecurity is a problem in the student community. Sometimes money doesn't come in, loans get delayed, or you've got other expenses that suddenly appear. Don't worry - that’s where we come in!

Due to overwhelming demand, we ask that all students register online for the Bluebird Pantry.

How to Access (only during semester)

  1. Fill out the form before you visit the Pantry. Registration closes 11:59pm every Monday.
  2. You MUST bring your student ID on the day of pick up.
  3. Check in with the volunteer at the entrance and grab your 5 free items for the week. That’s it!
