Bluebird Pantry - Welfare Initiative

With the help of student feedback, Bluebird & Night Owl now offers a free Food Pantry on campus. Please come by and visit us in Building 2, Level 3 (near the food court 02.03.145)

Our main aim is to assist students facing financial hardship by

· Providing nutritious, fresh food for students experiencing food insecurity to take home and prepare meals

· Helping support students’ wellbeing through reducing financial stress

· Continuing to support international students

The Pantry has a grocery shop-style layout, with stock available on shelves. The Bluebird Pantry is run by UTSSA staff and students together with the assistance of our dedicated student volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, you can find more information on our volunteering webpage

We would like to extend our deep appreciation to Euca for supporting the Bluebird Pantry since 2022 and all those who donate food and personal hygiene items.

Why we offer a Pantry

Bluebird Brekkie and Night Owl Noodles has been your fav service on campus for more than ten years but, with the rising cost of living, food insecurity has dramatically increased for students thereby creating a significant barrier to student success. So, we looked at how we could help and launched an extension of our food welfare services in the form of a Pantry.

The Pantry provides fair distribution of perishable and non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, contraception, and general household supplies. We aim to be as sustainable as possible and alongside donations, much of our stock is based on 'food rescue' which saves surplus edible food from ending up in landfill and is used instead to help feed students in need.

#Accessing the Pantry Welfare Service

Food insecurity is a problem in the student community. Sometimes money doesn't come in, loans get delayed, or you've got other expenses that suddenly appear. Don't worry - that’s where we come in!

Due to overwhelming demand, we ask that all students register online for the Bluebird Pantry.

How to Access (only during semester)

  1. Fill out the form before you visit the Pantry. Registration closes 11:59pm every Sunday.
  2. You MUST bring your student ID on the day of pick up.
  3. Check in with the volunteer at the entrance and grab your 5 free items for the week. That’s it!
