School Strike 4 Climate have called a global Climate Strike on March 25. Meet up with the UTS CLIMATE STRIKE CONTINGENT in front of the Tower at 10:30 on Friday! We will be joined by students from USYD, UNSW and MQ for our speakout and then we will march together to the Domain to join strikers from across the city.
We all know that the climate is in crisis. We have seen the IPCC reports highlighting that any new developments in fossil fuels would be catastrophic for the environment. Yet here in Australia, both the Government and Opposition have shamefully endorsed the Kurri Kurri Gas plant. The failure of our government to address the climate crisis is inexcusable, unambitious long term targets are not good enough. We need to take to the streets, connecting with high school students and workers to demand better.
CLIMATE STRIKE UTS Contingent to the Climate Strike
March 25th 10:30 Outside the UTS Tower.
#Come to strike together and speak out against the climate crisis, to demand tangible CLIMATE ACTION NOW!
#We Demand:
1. Shut down fossil fuels and fund an immediate just transition.
2. Land rights, not mining rights. Sovereignty now. Return First Nations land.
3. Make the rich pay for the climate crisis. Fund public services
We want to acknowledge that this event will take place on stolen and unceded Gadigal Land. So-called Australia was founded by colonial violence, and the violence continues to this day. There can be no climate justice without First Nations justice. This always was, and always will be, aboriginal land
This strike is endorsed by UTS meaning you will be able to leave your tutorials, lectures and classes Friday from 10:30 am and will not be penalised
